Who is KidRunner designed for?
KidRunner is being designed and built for people who love to run, walk and explore with their kids.
What are your goals for KidRunner?
Our goal is to transform the way people enjoy running and walking with their kids. We want to bring back the joy and freedom of having your hands and arms free. We want to make different kinds of terrain like dirt, snow and sand more accessible. We want to introduce performance to running with kids.
What’s different about it?
KidRunner is a hands free running/walking kid stroller. It’s lightweight, safe and fast. It’s about creating a beautiful, high performance running, ‘tool’.
How does KidRunner work?
KidRunner is designed to enable a runner with kids to run freely using their hands and arms; the natural way to run. The composite frame and innovative, flexible “bow” that connects to the runner decouples the up/down motion. It’s a smooth, safe, high performance ride for runner and kid.
What is the age and weight limits for kids?
Kids can range from 6mnths to about 4.5 years and from 10lbs to 45lbs.
Is it safe?
KidRunner is being designed for safety with a low center of gravity, protective seat, secure harness and bright colors.
How portable is KidRunner?
KidRunner is lightweight, compact and will be easy to breakdown. The current prototype is 20” by 32” when packed. It can be carried in its own backpack and easily fits in a car backseat or trunk.
Is KidRunner patented?
Yes. We have two patents.
How much does it weigh and how compact is it?
Today, KidRunner weighs about 25 lbs; 30% less than traditional kid joggers; our goal is less than 20 lbs. It will easily breakdown and fit in its own backpack.
What’s KidRunner made of?
Today, the frame is made of composite wood for strength, flexibility and lightweight. Future versions may be a combination of composite wood, carbon, fiberglass, etc.
Where is KidRunner being designed, built and tested?
KidRunner is designed and built in a high tech fabrication studio in Oakland, CA. It is being tested in San Francisco and Bend, Oregon.
How far have you already run with the prototype?
We have logged over 100 miles on roads, dirt, hard packed snow and sand. More to come!
Is this the finished product?
No. KidRunner is a prototype. We continue to improve aspects of how it moves and is packed.
Can I buy one?
Not yet. We continue to refine the design, engineering and pack ability. We are spending summer/fall 2013 testing and racing in Bend, Oregon. In late 2013 or early 2014, we will launch a Kickstarter campaign to fund manufacturing of several, “go to market” units.
